Why damp socks ruin nail progress

Hi everyone! I’ve been struggling with athlete’s foot and brittle nails for years, and I finally realized my biggest mistake: I wasn’t letting my feet breathe enough after treatment. I used to slap on a cream and immediately put on thick socks, which just trapped the moisture and made things worse.

Another error I made was stopping as soon as the skin looked “okay.” You really have to keep going until the nail grows out completely. Recently, I switched to using ProNail Complex (i buy here), and the blend of oils and vitamins has finally helped my skin build some resistance back. It feels much more durable now.

I’m curious to hear from others in the community. What’s the one thing you changed that actually made a difference? Are you guys rotating your shoes daily, or do you find that certain socks help more than others? Let’s share some tips!

The ‘stopping too early’ mistake is so real. I did that three times before I finally learned my lesson. You have to be patient for months, not weeks.

Do you guys use UV shoe sanitizers? I started using one every night and it seems to help keep the environment inside the shoe a bit cleaner.

Ugh, I’m at the frustrated stage right now. I feel like I’m doing everything right but my big toe is still yellow. It’s so exhausting to keep up with the routine.

Switching to 100% merino wool socks changed the game for me. They wick moisture away way better than cotton. Cotton just gets soggy and stays that way.

I actually started using ProNail Complex about two months ago after seeing a similar recommendation. It’s been great for the skin around my nails, which used to get so dry and cracked.

Make sure you’re filing down the thickness of the nail too (carefully!). If the nail is too thick, nothing can actually get underneath to where the issue is.

Thanks for the post, Phil. I definitely make the mistake of putting socks on too fast.

I’ve dealt with this for 10 years. The biggest thing for me was realizing that my bathroom floor was likely re-infecting me. Now I spray the shower with bleach cleaner every single time I use it. It sounds overkill but it’s the only way I stayed clear.

Does anyone find that cutting out sugar helps? I’ve heard some people say it makes a difference but I haven’t seen much proof.

I can second the mention of ProNail Complex. It really helped clear up the stubborn spots on my heels that wouldn’t go away with standard store sprays.
