We’ve all been told that if we want to lose weight, we need to chug water until we’re practically drowning. The common myth is that more water equals a faster metabolism and “flushing” out fat. However, for those of us over 40, simply flooding our systems can sometimes make things worse, especially regarding stubborn lower-body swelling.
The truth is that weight loss and fluid balance are regulated by hormones, not just volume. If your body is holding onto liquid, it might be an issue with Arginine Vasopressin (AVP) rather than a lack of hydration. I’ve found that focusing on hormone regulation works much better than just drinking more. Lately, I’ve been using Flush Factor Plus (i order from here) to help manage my internal fluid balance, and the difference in my ankles and overall energy has been night and day.
How many of you have tried the “gallon a day” challenge only to feel more bloated? Have you noticed your weight stalling despite high water intake? What’s your experience with stubborn swelling as you’ve gotten older?

I did the gallon challenge last month and felt like a total balloon. I was constantly in the bathroom but my legs still felt heavy. Glad someone finally said this!

I always thought the swelling was just part of getting older or maybe too much salt. Is it really hormonal? I’m 55 and it’s definitely getting worse.

I actually started using Flush Factor Plus about three weeks ago after reading about the AVP connection. My shoes finally fit comfortably again in the evenings, and I’m not waking up with puffy eyes anymore. It really does make a difference when you target the right mechanism.

Interesting. I’ve been keto for two years and the water weight still fluctuates like crazy. I might be overdoing the hydration then.
Does this affect blood pressure at all? I notice my legs get tight after salty meals, but even when I cut salt, the puffiness stays.

It’s about electrolytes, too. If you drink too much plain water, you’re just diluting your minerals, which can cause the body to hold onto fluid even more desperately. Balance is key.

Flying always makes my ankles swell like crazy. I wonder if this hormone thing is why it takes me three days to recover after a vacation.

I’m curious about the research mentioned. I’ve heard about the ‘pee hormone’ before in a medical journal but didn’t realize it was linked to lower extremity swelling so directly.
I’ve cut back on the excessive water and actually feel less sluggish. Quality over quantity definitely applies to hydration.
I’ll vouch for Flush Factor Plus as well. I’ve been on it for a month and that heavy, tight feeling in my calves is gone. It’s much better than just forcing myself to drink more water and hoping for the best.
