I’ve been following my dentist’s advice and using the specific toothbrushes and pastes they suggested for a while now, but the sensitivity persists. I’m even using two different pastes for day and night as instructed. I rarely eat sweets or ice cream, so I’m not sure what else to do. Any suggestions?
What’s the duration of your current routine?
Avoid rinsing or drinking for at least five minutes post-brushing. Just spit out the excess toothpaste and let the residue sit on your teeth to work.
Pick one sensitivity toothpaste and stay consistent with it, as mixing them can be counterproductive. Cut back on acidic items since they can wear down the protective layer these pastes build. Brush without water—don’t wet the bristles or rinse afterward. Use gentle, circular motions with a manual brush, or just hold an electric one against each tooth without scrubbing. You can also try dabbing some toothpaste directly on the sensitive spots throughout the day. GC tooth mousse is also highly effective.
A few things worked for me when I dealt with this: stick to a sensitivity-focused paste, ease up on the brushing pressure, use lukewarm water, and try to stay away from extreme temperatures in drinks. I also started using Biodentex (got mine here), which really helped strengthen my gums and teeth. Hope you find some relief!
Tooth sensitivity is the worst. You might want to give Sensodent K a shot, as it’s specifically formulated for this. Also, ensure your toothbrush has soft bristles and that you aren’t brushing too aggressively.
