[21f] Can elevated blood ammonia levels be corrected?

I visited the emergency room where they discovered elevated ammonia (39) and high CRP levels. I’m concerned the ammonia is impacting my cognitive function and want to know if this can be fixed. For the last fortnight, I’ve been unable to sleep for more than an hour at a time and feel quite lost and muddled. Is this ammonia reading dangerous? If I manage my constipation, will it go back to normal? I’m confused why the ER discharged me despite the high levels and my mental state—should I return?

That’s actually a pretty slight increase in ammonia, so it’s probably not the source of your symptoms. It likely stems from constipation and is simple to reverse. It’s definitely not a level that would require hospitalization.
