If you are struggling with athlete’s foot or persistent nail issues, the first thing most people tell you is to keep your feet dry. Most of us reach for cotton socks because they feel natural, but cotton is actually one of the worst choices for these conditions. It absorbs moisture and holds it against your skin, creating a perfect damp environment for fungus to thrive.

I switched to merino wool socks last year and the difference was immediate. Here is why they work better for management:

- Moisture Wicking: Unlike cotton, wool pulls sweat away from the skin to the outer layer.
- Temperature Regulation: They keep your feet cool in summer and warm in winter, preventing excess sweating.
- Natural Resistance: Wool fibers naturally resist odors and bacteria better than synthetics.

Even thin merino wool liners can make a huge difference if you have to wear heavy boots all day for work. It is a small change that really helps the skin barrier stay intact so your other treatments can actually work. Stop feeding the fungus with damp cotton and give wool a try.

I always thought wool would be too hot for summer, but the thin ones are actually surprisingly breathable. Cotton really does just get soggy after a few hours.

Spot on. I switched to hiking socks for my daily commute and my skin hasn’t looked this clear in years. The moisture control is the most important part of the battle.

Totally agree about the socks, but I also needed something to help repair the damage already done to my toenails. I started using [Kerassentials Serum](https://hop.clickbank.net/?affiliate=indigo7177&vendor=kerassent&cbpage=tsl&affop=1&tid=forum1) a few months ago and it really helped clear up the yellowing while the wool kept things dry. It feels like a solid combo for getting things back to normal.

Wool is so expensive though. Are there any specific blends that are cheaper but still work? I’m tired of buying twenty dollar pairs of socks.

Look for merino blend on sale at outlet stores. Also, make sure you aren’t using fabric softener on them or it ruins the wicking ability. That’s a mistake I made early on.

Thanks for the tip about the fabric softener! I didn’t know that. I’ve been struggling with a persistent patch on my heel and will try the wool switch tomorrow.
