I’ve been dealing with peripheral neuropathy for about six years now. Like many of you, the daytime is manageable because I’m distracted, but as soon as I lay down, the “electric shocks” in my feet start. I’ve noticed a lot of debate lately about whether we should just accept this as part of aging or if there’s a better way to manage the underlying triggers.

**What I’ve learned about night flares:**

- Temperature matters: Keeping my feet cool helps, but too cold and they cramp.
- Sugar is the enemy: If I have a dessert after 7 PM, my feet pay for it at 11 PM.
- Supplementation vs. Prescription: I tried the heavy-duty meds, but the brain fog was too much for me.

I shifted my focus toward high-dose antioxidants and B-vitamins instead. I eventually started using Nervala ([i buy here](https://hop.clickbank.net/?affiliate=indigo7177&vendor=nervala&pg=cb2&tid=forum)) because it combines alpha-lipoic acid and benfotiamine in one dose, which seems to hit the nerve issues from two different angles. It took about three weeks to notice a difference, but the “stinging” sensation has definitely dialed down.

The big question I have for the group is: do you think we are over-relying on masking the pain with prescriptions rather than looking at the metabolic side of nerve health? I feel like the medical community just wants to numb us rather than support the actual nerve function. What has your experience been with the “natural route” versus the standard clinical approach?

I totally agree about the sugar. If I touch a cookie after dinner, my toes are on fire by midnight. It’s all connected and it’s frustrating that more doctors don’t talk about diet.

I wish the natural route worked for me, but I need my prescription meds to even function at work. Glad you found relief though. Some of us just have it more severe I guess.

How long did it take for the supplements to kick in? I’ve tried ALA before but maybe the dose was too low. I’m looking for anything that doesn’t make me feel like a zombie.

I’ve had a similar experience. I switched to Nervala about two months ago and the burning in my heels has almost completely vanished. It definitely works better than the cheap stuff from the grocery store because the quality is consistent.

Same here, Dave. I was skeptical but Nervala really helped with the ‘crawling’ sensation I used to get in my calves. Worth every penny for the sleep I’m finally getting now.

I find that compression socks help during the day, but at night I have to be completely free. Even a heavy blanket causes a flare for me. It’s a weird condition.

The metabolic angle is huge. Most doctors don’t even mention benfotiamine, yet it’s so crucial for nerve health in seniors. We have to be our own advocates and look beyond the pills that just numb the brain. Keep up the good work!
